Leadership Presence
Albert Mehrabian, in his ground breaking book ‘Silent Messages’ asked the question, “What makes someone credible?” or why do we trust someone. In his study, people responded that that the believability of someone’s message was influenced 7 percent by content, 38% by voice tone and tempo, and 55% by body language. If we consider this from a somatic perspective, voice tone and tempo fall into the category of body, we can conclude that 93% of building trust and credibility is communicated through the body. From a rationalistic point of view, it’s easy to fall into the thinking that these percentages refer to the idiom of “body language”.
That is, if we learn certain techniques and tips we can entice people into believing us by assuming the correct posture. This idea that we can influence other by trying on the right “body language” trivializes the basic intuition humans have about authenticity and mastery. When we live our lives through tips and techniques, we appear inauthentic; we’re thought of as lacking substance, as trying too hard to be something we’re not.
The workshop deals with developing a Leadership Presence rooted in the fundamental skills of embodied practices, respect for life, the cultivation of the self, the primacy of relationships and a collective vision for living a proper human life.
